Description Information

Billy ran his race  and finished well. His stories were a joy to write.

William J. Rhodes, I, 1926-1985, was known to most people as Billy and to some as Dusty. World War II interrupted Billy's high school education, and he served his time in Civilian Public Service - most of it at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey. After the war he returned to that hospital as an employee. While there a bullet ripped trhough Billy's world and changed his life forever. In the year that followed two women from his past unexpectedly reached out to him. Billy made a choice, and the next thirty years were full with a family, career, and adventures. Billy was enjoying an active life in his late fifties when he unexpectedly received the worst of news. He spent the last few months of his life working through what that news meant for him from an eternal perspective. Billy's final message to those he left behind in 1985 is not only timeless but potentially life-changing.

Rarely does a man honor his dad by writing a book about him, yet Gene has tastefully shared stories, letters, and memories that reveal the character of Billy Rhodes. As a young person I was enamored by Billy's zest for life, yet sensitivity to the rules and regulations of his church. Gene has given us a great tribute to Billy. This is a can't-put-it-down book! - Reuben Horst, Associate Pastor, New Beginnings Church, Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Fir the first time over 70 photographs from 1900 to 1985, as well as CPS autographs and documents, and Billy's airplane passenger lists are published.
